  • Worked in the Corporate Actuarial department on a wide variety of projects including reserve calculations, staff pension evaluations and salary scale adjustments

London Life Insurance Company, July 1990 to September 1994

  • Worked in group retirement products area; responsibilities included large case exception pricing and pricing all group RRSP and pension products
    • Worked in retirement products area; responsibilities included large case pricing exceptions, month end financial work, weekly interest rate setting, designing/pricing individual annuity and savings products and contributing data to CIA annuitant mortality study
    • Worked in group life/health area; responsibilities included analyzing medical claims database, monthly premium rate setting for group medical plans, design and pricing of new medical products and designing and pricing a group optional life insurance product

Pension Plan Turnover Study – 1997 -- $21,000
Granting Agency – Society of Actuaries (Individual)
This was a project done for the Society of Actuaries’ Non-Mortality Decrements Task Force to create a table of employee turnover and retirement rates for use in determining a company’s costs for post retirement benefits.

Presented the results of a “Pension plan turnover and retirement rate study” at the annual meeting of the Society of Actuaries, Maui, Hawaii, June 1998

This was an offshoot project of the Pension Plan Turnover Study that led to a paper jointly written with Lawrence Sher (a US Actuary) that compared the estimated size of a monthly pension under a cash balance pension plan and a defined benefit pension plan.

Mortality/Turnover Data Base – 2002/03 -- $45,000

Granting Agency – Society of Actuaries (Individual)
This is a current ongoing project requested by two groups of the Society of Actuaries, the Retirement Plans Experience Committee and the Non-Mortality Decrements Task Force, to create a database of pension plan mortality and turnover data for future use by the Society of Actuaries.
